Remix musik video dibuat oleh DJ Morgoth dari Jerman dengan mengkombinasikan vokal melodi dari lagu "Never Gonna Give You Up" dari Rick Astley dan musik dari "Smells Like Teen Spirit" dari Nirvana. Btw, video ini tidak bisa ditonton langsung dari situs Youtube. Setiap kali saya buka muncul tulisan "This video is not available in your country due to copyright restrictions". Video klip murah & kreatif menggunakan fasilitas umum

Nama band musik Get Out Clause mungkin tidak banyak yang tahu. Band ini merupakan sebuah band independent dari Inggris yang seperti semua band indie, berjuang meraih fame & fortune di dunia musik. Mungkin belum sampai seterkenal Muse atau Coldplay, namun Get Out Clause paling tidak telah terkenal di YouTube dan banyak pemerhati media baru lainnya. Video klip dari band ini di YouTube telah dilihat oleh lebih dari 20.000 pengunjung YouTube hanya dalam waktu 24 jam. Apa yang membuat video klip mereka menjadi istimewa? Karena mereka membuat video klip dengan memanfaatkan kamera pengawas (CCTV surveillance cameras) yang biasa dipasang di tempat-tempat umum sebagai tindakan untuk mencegah kriminalitas dan tindakan hukum lainnya.

Di Inggris terdapat lebih dari 13 juta kamera CCTV yang dipasang di tempat-tempat umum oleh pihak otoritas setempat. Keberadaan kamera yang sangat banyak ini kemudian dimanfaatkan oleh band ini untuk merekam video klip mereka. Dengan membawa alat musik yang mereka miliki dari mic sampai drum kit, mereka lalu performing di 80 lokasi berbeda (dari bus umum sampai taksi) yang terdapat kamera CCTV. Karena di lokasi tersebut terdapat kamera CCTV maka aksi performance mereka kemudian terekam oleh kamera-kamera tersebut. Lalu bagaimana mereka bisa mendapatkan rekaman tersebut dari pihak otoritas? Hal tersebut dimungkinkan karena di Inggris terdapat undang-undang yang disebut dengan Data Protection Act yang mirip dengan aturan Freedom of Information Act yang ada di Amerika Serikat. Aturan ini memberikan setiap individu hak akses terhadap semua informasi yang dikumpulkan mengenai individu tersebut.

Ide mengenai video dengan menggunakan kamera CCTV mungkin bukan sebuah ide baru karena film dengan judul "Look" dibuat dengan menggunakan sudut pandang kamera CCTV. Namun yang menarik adalah ide kreatif pemanfaatan fasilitas umum yang tujuannya serius atau bisa dikatakan bersifat totalitarian karena digunakan untuk pihak penguasa untuk mengawasi rakyatnya, menjadi sebuah konsep meta art. Konsep meta art yang sama yang digunakan oleh Warhol hingga Bansky.

Last.fm to free the musics

I'm a long time member of Last.fm since the day they only offer simple services. I subscribe to the web just so I can show the musics I played/like to various forums and mailing lists I'm into. Just look at the widget on the right side of this page. The services then developed into more complex and sophisticated and evolve into something very promising in web trend today. I personally admire the goal and the core philosophy of the founders, and I think it is one of the strongest web social network today and still has many room for improvements in the future.
Today as I read my daily morning routine web, I found news about Last.fm. As for 23 January 2008, you can play full-length tracks and entire albums for free on the Last.fm web site. Previously you can only play just the first portion of the song. And now you can freely stream every song you see and hear in the web. Last.fm claimed they have total support from big recording labels such EMI, Sony BMG, Universal and Warner so they have made the biggest legal collection of music available to play online for free. Each time you play one of the song, the artist of the song get paid. This way the artist can get the amount of money based on how popular their song is instead just one fixed amount which sometime can be unreasonable (too big so you spend money for music you do not like or to small so the artist do not get what they deserve).
The other great news is, this "someone play your music and you get paid" scheme not just for those big artists from big labels. You as an individual or come from indie label can also participate in. Just sign up to participate for free. This is a great opportunity for bands and artists to get their songs up and heard by a lot of people and get their name for it.
